Wine of the Week this week takes us to the ridges of the famed Yarra Valley in Victoria, Australia in a bid to excite the senses as Autumn begins to bite. 

Sally and Tom, the team at Bobar, began their winemaking journey together while studying Viticulture at Charles Sturt University in Australia. Since then they have travelled the world and done vintages in France where they learned the patience, skill and dedication needed to make pristine natural wines. 

In typically straightforward style, this 85% pinot noir is paired with 15% shiraz to give it a light yet bold profile. The 2022 season was the third successive cool season and with adequate rain throughout, the wines have great levels of natural acidity and fruitful intensity. 

In the glass, it is a rather eye-catching wine with glittering deep pink and purple edges. The wine holds a generous bouquet of fleshy red fruits with a touch of savoury notes of miso and spice. The palate is richly fruited with a velvety texture and a taut youthful structure. It is a clean wine with the right amount of natural expression and has quality ageing potential. This is how natural wines should be made.
