Wine of the Week - Briar Ridge Old Vines Shiraz, 2019

Wine of the Week - Briar Ridge Old Vines Shiraz, 2019

To kick off our wine of the week, we have an absolute ripper from Briar Ridge in the Hunter Valley. 2019 was a standout year for red wines from the region. It was an extremely dry year but without any overbearing heat, resulting in wines with concentrated fruit flavours, ripe tannins and finely balanced acidity.

The vineyards that make up the ‘Old Vines’ are just over 40 years old now and continue to produce stunning quality grapes. A perfumed nose of white pepper and violet with a wicked palette of rich juicy red fruits alongside bright crunchy acidity. Winemaker Alex Beckett likens the wine to the shiraz of the Northern Rhone, but, of course, better! He proves this point by allowing French shiraz that makes it to Australia into the country.

At the standard price of £23.50 this wine is a bargain but coming in at £18.80 with the Wine of the Week discount, there’s none better. Get six and its sub £18!
