Wine of the Week

Wine of the Week

Coming from the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, the 2015 Inman Family Wines Luxe Cuvee Extra Brut is a testament to earth, sea and skill. It’s particularly exciting considering this is winemaker Kathleen Inman’s first sparkling wine that is not 100% Pinot Noir.

This wine is a classic blend of 72% Pinot Noir and 28% Chardonnay, with the Pinot coming from Inman’s own sensitively grown estate Olivet Grange Vineyard, while the Chardonnay is from famous Sonoma County Winemaker, Jim Pratt’s Irwin Lane vineyard.

Kathleen’s deft touch and traditional method resulted in nearly five years aging on the yeast with fermentation finishing in the bottle with 0.081% residual sugar. No additional sugar was added as a dosage.

This beautiful 2015 Methode Champenoise sparkling wine manages to be bright and crisp with lots of fresh apple, pear, and alpine strawberries while at the same time being rich and complex. The generous mousse is created by the very fine bead.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, this serious, vintage-dated sparkler is the perfect wine to celebrate with.
